Summary
My main interests are music and drama. I have had three plays for young people published, one about Anne Frank and another about the First World War. My chief relaxation is to walk in the Tyne valley where I live, and to play violin and classical guitar in various amateur orchestras.Qualifications
- CELTA (Newcastle College)
- Diploma of Education (Oxford University)
- BA (English) (Oxford University)
Experience
I taught English and Literature for 27 years in a secondary school where I also had responsibility for Drama. I became Head of Department after 10 years, preparing students for entrance exams to Oxford and Cambridge.I took a career break after 27 years, amongst other things working at a college for students with learning difficulties where I directed several plays developed with the students, including a 15 minute 'Macbeth' and various versions of Harry Potter.
About this time I started working as a private tutor, eventually moving on to teaching with Oxford Home Schooling in 2005.
More
As well as tutoring for OOL I also help students at Northumbria University who have difficulties with notetaking; subjects have included Music, Sociology, Psychology, Drama and Biochemistry. At the moment I work with a student with autism who is taking a degree in Health and Social Science.
I also volunteer at a shelter for the homeless and disadvantaged. I feel this keeps me in some small way in touch with the more challenging side of the everyday world.
