Experience

Hello my name is Joanne. I am a patient, friendly and results driven GCSE and A Level Sociology tutor, based in Lincolnshire.

I have worked within education for 20 years in a variety of roles. I am an experienced classroom teacher having taught in Humanities and Social Science departments of secondary schools and colleges for ten years as well as running my own department for three. I have also tutored on a one-to-one and group basis in both Sociology and English for 14 years. I have been both an AQA and OCR examiner for GCSE and A level Sociology for 14 years, as well as a TEFL and ESOL exam marker for two years. I currently tutor, mentor and assess students through distance learning in both GCSE and A level Sociology as well as exam mark so I am up to date with the relevant changes as well as being confident that my subject knowledge is second to none. I cater to students with various emotional and social needs, with EHCPs and CAMHs referrals, and have tutored students with autism to achieve an A grade.

On a personal level I have been passionate about sociology for over two decades now. I have enjoyed studying Sociology since I was 16 and decided to pursue it at university, and then later to teach it. Sociology is everywhere and is such a fascinating subject that reaches into every part of our lives that it's hard not to become engrossed in it.

I offer a friendly yet results driven approach to my tutoring that I like to keep mostly student led, although I'm happy to set schemes of work if we were to work together over several months.
If you are looking for exam practice, technique and revision tips, I have an arsenal of points and some useful examiner secrets to help you succeed. Alternatively if you have rushed through your syllabus and need some clarification on any topics then I'd be more than happy to help.
