Experience
I have been working as a teacher since 2001 and have had a range of experience, both working in a variety of mainstream schools and colleges and also as a private and distance learning tutor. I have been working with OOL since 2010.I have experience teaching all science disciplines through to GCSE and teach Biology A Level. I have also worked as an examiner for 10 years.
I very much enjoy working as an online tutor as I genuinely find the unique nature of the job rewarding. I enjoy being able to provide individualised support to my students and watching their confidence improve! I have established methods which are suitable for when the teaching is not face-to-face in a standard classroom situation. I believe a teacher must have a strong personality and be able to instil interest in the subject when not working in the same room as the students. I feel that online students can feel somewhat isolated and it is imperative that I am able to generate a 'class' feeling amongst my students and pay particular attention to the needs of each individual. Explanation of the subject is more difficult when not face-to-face and as teachers, we must be able to articulate well. I encourage my students to use spaced learning as this improves memory retention and increases overall attainment.

I work as a Senior Examiner with Edexcel. I have undertaken examining roles for 10 years. My role requires work throughout the year to aid in the development of mark schemes, in addition to managing a designated team of examiners as we work together in marking exam papers. This work affords the opportunity to thoroughly understand the exam process and be able to better support students as they prepare for examinations. I believe this experience is beneficial for students to gain their best grade. I am able to confidently address areas of weakness and use mark schemes to aid students towards improving upon their verbal and written responses.Availability (UK time)
