Experience
Tutor with Oxford Open Learning since 2014. Associate Lecturer at the Open University since 2001, teaching on successive undergraduate and postgraduate courses. A-Level examiner & Team Leader with Edexcel (6HI02 and 6HI03). Have also taught Politics at FE & HE level at Cornwall College; A-Level History & Access (History) at Truro College, lectured with WEA; and have tutored privately. Worked as Primary School Broadcast Developer with VSO Ghana in 2007-08. Worked at the University of Luton between 1993-2001, being responsible for the sole writing & delivery of a number of courses, contribution to a number of others at undergraduate and post-graduate level, the pastoral oversight of students (both undergrad & post grad), plus maintaining an active research output. Responsible for steering Modern History degree through validation, subsequently serving as Field Manager & Personal Tutor. Supervised Ph.D. students, acted as an internal & external Ph.D. examiner, organised & chaired exam boards, served on Faculty Academic Standards Committee, deputised for the Head of Department, & represented the Faculty at the Quality Assurance Audit. Advised on the development of a Local History component for GCSE History Syllabus. Provided training sessions in history & politics to trainee BBC journalists.Published several local history books (including monograph), a number of articles/book reviews & contributed papers to conferences at home & abroad. Have run oral history projects with students, broadcast with the History Channel (2002) and on local radio.
