Experience
I taught English Language and Literature at GCSE and A-level between 2017 and 2023, during which time I worked in both the private and state sector. More recently, I have worked as a tutor in these subjects, alongside a teaching-focused role at the University of Leeds, where I work one-to-one with students from all disciplines as well as running seminars, lectures, and workshops.In both my teaching and my tutoring, I have helped students to achieve grades far in excess of their previous predictions while inspiring a genuine love of English, even among students who did not previously enjoy this subject area. My proudest achievement came when, in my first teaching role, I helped pupils with average predicted grades of 4 achieve an average of 8 in both English Literature and Language GCSE, including several 9s. More recently, I have drawn on my subject expertise to help A-level students to secure the grades they needed to get into their chosen universities.
Perhaps just as important as the results my students achieve is the sense of joy and wonder I am able to help inspire among them. I am able to achieve this with a style that is at once patient, rigorous, and innovative, always focusing on the specific needs, skills, and personality of the student. I specialise in explaining the difficult or ambiguous concepts that so frequently come up in my subject in ways that students can not only grasp but enjoy thinking, reading, and writing about.
