Experience
Over the last 20 years I have taught students in various stages of their education from IGCSE through A-levels and beyond. I have taught a range of group sizes, from individuals to large classrooms but I enjoy tutoring 1-to-1 the most as it allows me to really get to grips with the specific issues a student is having.Biology is fascinating, with plenty of wow moments but some topics are complicated and demanding. Not only that, but you need to learn the ‘vocabulary’ of biology and how to present your ideas to ensure you get all the credit you deserve. During tuition we would check your understanding of any problem areas, but also consider how to answer exam-style questions.

Before teaching I was a ‘real’ scientist working in both research and hospital labs. Although I love doing practical biology, I also really enjoy explaining things to others. In addition to tutoring I also write and mark exams. This gives me some experience of how hard it can be to stay motivated and focussed when working alone.Availability (UK time)
