Oxford Open Learning Trust

Oxford Open Learning/Home Schooling has been providing high-quality distance learning/home study courses for 30 + years. We pride ourselves on our commitment to our students and their families. Being one of the UK’s leading KS3, GCSE, IGCSE, and A-level distance learning course specialists our regular course standards meant we were one of the few distance learning providers to be able to grade our students during the COVID grading years. We also boast of having many A-level students gain placements into the top Russell Group Universities. A great achievement and recognition for us and our students for all their hard work. But that is not enough for us, we want to provide our students with more, our Additional Service.

Our Additional Service provides one-to-one online classes, much like Zoom or Skype with additional security and educational tools. You can use this service regularly or from time to time, whenever you require a visual aid to assist you in your studies. This could be to master a specific subject/module, work through a Tutor Marked Assignment, or for extra revision in the run-up to your exams. You choose, you are in control.

How it works

All lessons occur online in our specialist Tutor Rooms. Live video chat allows tutors and students to talk freely, and interactive whiteboards allow co-viewing and co-editing of resources (e.g. diagrams, notes and questions). Both tutor and student can share files with a single click and work through questions together, live on screen. Tutor Rooms are set up automatically with a single click and run in your internet browser so there’s nothing to install. All you need is a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and a good internet connection.

The parent/guardian is responsible for the physical environment of the student during the session, ensuring it is safe and appropriate. All calls are recorded for Safeguarding purposes.

How it works

Getting Started

Students/guardians add credit to the account before the lesson using a debit or credit card and after the lesson, the correct amount of credit is automatically transferred to the tutor. Students can top up credit anytime on a pay-as-you-go basis, there is no commitment. Students require £40 or more in their “Wallet” to book a lesson. A lesson can be booked from 15 minutes to an hour. The cost of this additional tuition is £40 per hour.

To book a tutorial simply register and find your tutor. We recommend your appointed OOL tutor as they will have pre-knowledge of your strengths and weaknesses, but if they are not available another tutor may be. Then send the tutor a message, about what you would like to discuss and your availability. Once a time has been confirmed via the messaging system, the tutor will complete the booking. The booking will then appear in the student's bookings section.

When it's time to start the lesson, simply log in and enter the Tutor Room.

Tutors

Oxford Open Learning tutors are fully qualified teachers with at least 5 years experience of working in a classroom. They all hold either a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or a degree in education and many of our tutors work additionally as examiners. All tutors are DBS checked, their references have been verified, and they all adhere to our Safeguarding and KCSIE Policy.

You can be assured when you book a one-to-one, you are booking a professionally qualified subject-specific tutor who has detailed knowledge of the course you are undertaking.
